The course will begin with an overview of the equipment required for nature field recording, such as various microphones, recorders, and accessories. You will learn about the many features of microphones and how to choose the best one for different sorts of sounds. You will also learn how to properly place the microphone and how to utilize windscreens and windshields to reduce wind noise.
You will also learn about microphone techniques and how to use different microphone patterns to capture different types of sounds. For example, you will learn how to use a directional microphone, such as a shotgun microphone, to isolate a specific sound source, like a bird, and how to use an omnidirectional microphone to capture ambient sounds.
