We are more and more connected by the written word, and the truth is, people judge us by our mastery of writing coherently and correctly.
Just like if you're talking to someone over the phone, static can cause you not to be understood -- well, poor grammar is a kind of verbal static that affects or distorts the meaning of your communication.
